## Description

Royal & Derngate is a theatre and producing organisation based in Northampton, creating and presenting stage productions under its Made in Northampton programme. Its work brings together playwrights, performers, composers and creative teams, and includes original music commissioned for the stage. The theatre’s commissions have featured composers from a range of musical backgrounds, including film, opera, classical, electronic and popular music.

Royal & Derngate also supports creative projects beyond live productions. Its charity compilation album, INCIDENTAL: Music For The Stage, brings together original compositions inspired by well-known plays and novels in the English language, alongside spoken performances by acclaimed actors. Developed with Atlantic Screen Music and Phantom Limb, the album raises funds to help Royal & Derngate recover from the COVID-19 closure and continue producing new work.

Through its productions, commissions and collaborations, the organisation connects contemporary artists with established theatrical and literary works. Royal & Derngate’s activities span theatre-making, music and performance, with a focus on sustaining its venue and enabling future creative projects in Northampton.
