## Description

The "Indeks Represjonowanych" is a significant initiative under the auspices of the Institute of National Remembrance (IPN) in Poland. Established as part of a scientific research program originally initiated by the Eastern Archives, this project commenced in 1988 and aimed to document the experiences of individuals subjected to Soviet repression after September 17, 1939. The program evolved under the sponsorship of the IPN starting in 2002 and focuses primarily on preserving and providing access to personal testimonies and historical data.

The database, now containing over 1.2 million records, serves as a vital resource for victims seeking to document their experiences, families searching for missing relatives, and researchers studying the complexities of political repression during and after World War II. It includes personal surveys completed by victims and their families, verified biographical data, and references to archival sources. Accessible online, the "Indeks Represjonowanych" not only preserves history but also fosters academic research, thus ensuring that the legacy of those affected continues to be acknowledged and understood.
