Canadian Indigenous Nurses Association (C. I. N.
A. ) was officially formed in 1975 as Registered Nurses, Indian and Inuit Association of Canada, although its roots go back to 1974. It was established by a group of nurses who shared a common vision rooted in their unique perspective as Indigenous caregivers.
The association was created to address the health problems affecting Indigenous People and to improve their overall health conditions. Today, C. I.
N. A. works with communities, health professionals, and government institutions on Indigenous Health Nursing issues and practices within the Canadian Health system.
They engage in research, consult with organizations, and promote awareness of the health needs of Canadian Indigenous people. Furthermore, C. I.
N. A. supports the recruitment and retention of more people of Indigenous ancestry into nursing and other health sciences professions.
Their mission is to benefit Indigenous peoples of Canada by improving their health and well-being, physically, mentally, socially, and spiritually
