Instituto Nacional de Saúde (INS) is a public technical-scientific institution responsible for generating scientific evidence in health to ensure better health and well-being in Mozambique. As the governing, regulatory, and oversight body, INS coordinates and supervises the national health research agenda and its implementation across the country. They conduct clinical, biomedical, pharmacological, epidemiological, and socio-anthropological research in line with national priorities.
INS collaborates with national and foreign scientific institutions and international development agencies to promote technology transfer, training, and capacity building for national researchers and technicians. They also contribute to public health by evaluating health situations and determinants, developing and evaluating disease prevention and control technologies, and providing quality laboratory diagnostics during epidemics. Please note that INS does not provide medical assistance directly to citizens, as that falls under the responsibility of the Ministry of Health (MISAU).
