InsideOUT Writers is a non-profit organization dedicated to reducing recidivism among young people navigating juvenile detention and life after incarceration. Through creative writing, we empower our writers with the confidence and skills to successfully reintegrate into our communities and advocate for themselves. Our services include arts-based healing, community reintegration services, and diversion programming for at-risk youth.

Since 1996, we have provided writing classes and re-entry services to over 25,000 incarcerated juveniles in Los Angeles. Remarkably, our Alumni Program has achieved less than 10% recidivism among participants, compared to the national rate of 75%. We offer trauma-informed creative writing classes, open mic opportunities, writers' retreats, community reintegration case management, career support, and much more.

Through a partnership with the Los Angeles County Department of Probation, we have served over 25,000 moderate and/or high-risk youth, offering access to on-site and referred re-entry services.
