## Description

The Under and Tuglas Literature Institute of the Estonian Academy of Sciences is a research and development institution dedicated to studying and interpreting literature in Estonian and the multilingual literary culture created in Estonia across different periods. Its work aims to preserve Estonian language and culture and bring the region’s literary heritage to wider international scholarly attention. The institute also serves as a research memory institution, managing, studying and developing unique collections that form part of Estonia’s scientific and cultural heritage.

Its activities include research projects, publications, scholarly events and collaborative networks. The institute shares research through articles and books, and makes its collections accessible through its library and museum services. Visitors can explore exhibitions, educational programmes and the writers’ garden, while virtual exhibitions offer access to selected cultural materials online. The institute also organizes public talks, seminars and other events connecting literature, history and society. Its collections and projects support research into Estonian and Baltic literary traditions, including the diverse cultural histories of the region.
