The International Greeter Association (IGA) is a global brand that was established in 2019, although the Greeter idea was born back in 1992 with the initiation of Big Apple Greeters in New York by Lynn Brooks. Today, this concept has expanded to over 140 cities and regions worldwide, from Argentina to Vietnam. The IGA is a network of Greeter organizations that share the same core values. Greeters are passionate volunteers who welcome visitors to their city and offer personal, two- to three-hour walking tours that go beyond the guidebooks and explore hidden gems off the beaten track. Whether you're a first-time visitor or a frequent guest, the Greeters will show you their city from their local perspective, sharing their knowledge and enthusiasm. During these walks, you'll have the opportunity to experience the city by foot or using the public transport network, gaining insight into what it's like to live there and discovering the latest city gossip. The atmosphere is relaxed and informal, as Greeters aim to create a friendship rather than just being a tour guide.
