The Iowa Community Action Association (ICAA) is a nationwide network of local agencies established in 1964 under the Economic Opportunity Act. The association is dedicated to finding local solutions to alleviate poverty and empower low-income citizens in Iowa. With sixteen Community Action Agencies (CAAs) serving all 99 counties in the state, ICAA assists over 320,000 Iowans annually.
The CAAs, which are private, non-profit organizations, collaborate with various local entities to provide a wide range of services. These innovative strategies aim to meet the basic needs of children and families, while also fostering their self-sufficiency and participation in their communities. Through efficient delivery systems, ICAA maximizes federal, state, and local resources to ensure effective service provision across Iowa.
The association's mission revolves around educating, advocating for, and connecting Community Action Agencies to amplify their unified voice in assisting Iowans facing economic hardship. By committing to their values of commitment, competence, creativity, connection, and compassion, ICAA pursues its vision of being the leading force in helping those with less achieve more.
