## Description

International Reggae Day (IRD) is a vibrant 24-hour global media festival originating in Jamaica, dedicated to celebrating the island's rich musical heritage and creative influence worldwide. Established on July 1, 1994, and officially proclaimed by Jamaica's Governor General Sir Howard Cooke in 2000, IRD serves as both a cultural beacon and marketing platform for Jamaica's creative industries.

Over the years, IRD has evolved into a multifaceted event featuring not only a global reggae party but also a Kingston-based music lifestyle festival. The festival showcases diverse activities, such as creative industries expos, workshops, talent searches, and film festivals, while highlighting the vibrant lifestyle products from Jamaica, including music, culinary delights, and literature.

Esteemed past performers include legendary reggae artists like Toots and the Maytals, Morgan Heritage, and Tessanne Chin, further solidifying IRD's position as a premier celebration of reggae music and culture. Each year, IRD mobilizes media and music enthusiasts globally to join in the festivities, reinforcing reggae as the heart and soul of Jamaica's identity.
