ISKME is an independent, education nonprofit organization based in Half Moon Bay, California. Their mission is to promote participatory, equitable, and open learning and knowledge sharing. With a vision of creating a more just society, ISKME believes in the importance of inclusive learning environments.

Since its establishment in 2002, ISKME has been conducting social science research and developing research-based innovations to improve knowledge sharing in education. ISKME is renowned for its pioneering open education initiatives and supports innovative teaching and learning practices worldwide. They assist policy makers, foundations, and educational institutions in designing and assessing education policies and programs.

ISKME's theory of action consists of three levels of engagement: Study, Open, and Build. In the Study phase, ISKME conducts cutting-edge research to produce new frameworks, models, and theories that lead to transformative change in education practice and policy. The Open phase focuses on creating and facilitating open knowledge networks, including the award-winning OER Commons initiative.

These networks support information sharing and collaboration among teachers, students, and self-learners. ISKME also offers tools and support services for integrating the best of open educational resources and knowledge management. In the Build phase, ISKME builds capacity for large-scale educational change through innovative trainings and professional development workshops.

Their OER Professional Development program trains teachers on how to create and reuse open educational content. Additionally, ISKME's Action Collabs provide a structure for design-thinking and cooperation, generating action plans to solve education challenges. ISKME's flagship event, the Big Ideas Fest, gathers educators from diverse areas to collaborate and share transformative ideas in K-20 education, breaking down silos and placing learning at the forefront.
