## Description

Friends of Island History Trust (FoIHT) is a charity formed on 7 June 2014 to continue recording and sharing the history of London’s Isle of Dogs, following the closure of the Island History Trust. Its work preserves local heritage and encourages residents, families and future generations to engage with the area’s past.

FoIHT maintains an extensive collection of historic photographs, in original and digital formats, supported by a bespoke database. The collection is growing beyond its earlier focus on the period from the end of the Second World War onwards. Visitors can seek help with family-history research and searches for local place names through the group’s History Room at St John’s Community Centre.

The charity hosts spring and autumn open days, bringing together local historical groups, volunteers and community members. It also produces Island history calendars featuring photographs and information, and has offered publications such as Mick Lemmerman’s book about the Isle of Dogs during the Second World War.
