## Description

Íslendingabók is a database that houses information about the family lineages of nearly all Icelanders, with sources dating back to the beginning of the country. It contains records of approximately 982,000 individuals spanning from the settlement of Iceland to modern times. Nearly 95% of all Icelanders since the 1703 census can be found in Íslendingabók, including those dating back to the settlement era if documented. The project, initiated in 1988 by Friðrik Skúlason, aims to utilize genealogical data for research purposes, collaborating with Icelandic geneticists on genetic studies. With over 128,000 individuals born in the 21st century, 484,000 born in the 20th century, and around 202,000 from the 19th century, Íslendingabók remains a work in progress, welcoming feedback to improve the database. Explore your Icelandic heritage with Íslendingabók.
