## Description

iSTAR (Ice Sheet Stability Programme) is a pioneering initiative led by the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC), dedicated to investigating the stability of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet. Operating with a six-year budget of £7.4 million, the programme brings together top scientists from 11 UK universities and the British Antarctic Survey to tackle pressing questions about climate change and its effects on ice loss and sea-level rise.

The initiative is structured around four main research projects, each utilizing innovative technologies to yield crucial insights into ocean and ice dynamics. The ocean-focused projects—Ocean2ice and Ocean under ice—examine the impacts of ocean heat on ice shelves. Meanwhile, the ice-focused projects—Dynamic ice and Ice loss—explore the behavior of key glaciers that contribute to sea-level changes. By harnessing cutting-edge methodologies, iSTAR aims to enhance our understanding of environmental shifts and support evidence-based decision-making for policies that affect public well-being and ecological health.
