## Description

Instituto de Telecomunicações (IT) is a Portuguese research institute dedicated to creating and sharing scientific knowledge in telecommunications and information technology. Its work spans wireless technologies, optics and photonics, information and data sciences, networks and services, and foundational fields including mathematics, instrumentation, materials, power systems, and computation. Researchers investigate wireless communication systems and supporting technologies, optical communications and networks, multimedia data processing, and the design of future networks, with attention to quality of service, mobility, and security.

IT operates across several sites, including Aveiro, Coimbra, Lisbon, Covilhã, Leiria, and Porto, and works with academic and industry partners. Rather than presenting a conventional retail product range, the institute offers research and innovation capabilities, specialist laboratory infrastructure, and technology transfer. It also supports the development of start-ups and spin-offs, shares research impact and publications, and engages the wider community through events, outreach, and media activity. Through these activities, IT connects scientific discovery with practical applications and contributes to advances in communications and information technology.
