## Description

Italian Renaissance Swordsmanship Academy (IRSA) is a fencing academy in San Jose, California, dedicated to teaching the martial art of Italian swordsmanship. The academy presents swordsmanship as both a practical discipline and a tradition shaped by history, with an emphasis on self-defense techniques developed over centuries. Its curriculum covers longsword, dagger, sidesword, rapier, and saber, giving students the opportunity to study several forms of historical fencing.

IRSA offers introductory and basics classes, general Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA) training, and a Jr Knights program. Classes are scheduled on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays, with RSVP required for some sessions. The academy’s instructors include Head Coach Tony Barajas and Assistant Instructor Jeremy Tavan; coaches are described as certified or comparably experienced in martial arts. Alongside technical instruction, IRSA highlights discipline, focus, and respect as values developed through training. Based at 705 W. Capitol Expressway, Suite 30, the academy also provides training resources, event and liability forms, weapons information, rules, videos, and a gallery for its community.
