## Description

The Institute for Human Sciences (IWM) is a distinguished institute dedicated to advanced study in the humanities and social sciences, established in 1982 by Polish philosopher Krzysztof Michalski and two German colleagues in Austria. The IWM has evolved from its initial mission of fostering dialogue among dissenting thinkers from Eastern Europe and prominent Western scholars into a global platform that promotes interdisciplinary intellectual exchange. As an independent and non-partisan institution, it provides a rich environment for permanent and visiting fellows to pursue diverse research, with an emphasis on themes such as Encounter and Solidarity, Encounters in Democracy, and Encounters with Europe.

The IWM is committed to outreach and public engagement, organizing lectures, debates, and conferences to connect with wider audiences and influence policy. The institute publishes a range of materials including books and digital content to support its mission of addressing complex challenges facing contemporary society through sustained intellectual work. Overall, the IWM serves as a vital hub for fostering critical dialogue that promotes a more open and just world.
