James Michel Foundation

The James Michel Foundation is a non-profit organization that promotes the Blue Economy, tackles Climate Change, and works towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals set by the United Nations. Established in 2017, the foundation builds upon the experience and legacy of its founder, former President James Michel. Operating primarily in Seychelles, as well as other small island developing states and coastal communities worldwide, their focus is on economic opportunities within the ocean while addressing the overexploitation and damage caused by human activities and climate change.

The foundation delivers impactful outcomes related to climate mitigation, ocean conservation, and sustainable development for the islanders and beyond. With strategic objectives that include promoting sustainable economic growth in the blue economy sector, raising awareness about marine conservation, building climate resilience, and enhancing knowledge and skills in the blue economy, the organization engages the global community in activities related to ocean sustainability. Former President Michel's contributions to the Seychelles Blue Economy include establishing a dedicated governmental department and implementing innovative debt-for-nature swaps.
