## Description

The Resistance is a women-owned and women-run gym in Havelock North, Hawke’s Bay, created to help women build strength, confidence and wellbeing in a welcoming, supportive environment. Its approach is shaped around women’s bodies, changing needs and everyday lives, with training that avoids competition, intimidation and judgment.

The gym offers group strength classes for all levels, along with high-intensity interval training (HIIT) and mobility classes. Its strength-focused coaching helps members work on muscle, bone strength and mobility, while supporting them to feel more capable in and beyond the gym. The Resistance also offers a Women’s Strength Programme, and its coaching is particularly informed by the needs of midlife women.

Founder Janine draws on a Master’s degree in Educational Psychology to guide a thoughtful, evidence-based approach to confidence, behaviour change and reconnecting with the body. Members are supported to understand exercises, adapt training around injuries and build confidence using gym equipment.
