## Description

Jefferson County Historical Association is a nonprofit historical organization founded in 1942 to preserve and publicize the rich history of Jefferson County, Alabama. It shares the county’s story through newsletters, publications, community engagement, and educational resources, helping residents and visitors explore the people, places, and events that shaped the region. Its featured subjects include Birmingham’s industrial and baseball history, the demolition of Terminal Station and the preservation movement it inspired, downtown architecture, civil rights leader Reverend Fred Shuttlesworth, Avondale Mills, and Sloss Furnaces. The association also highlights historic landmarks such as the City Federal Building, once the Southeast’s largest skyscraper. Visitors can learn about local historical markers, browse the organization’s publications, follow its communications, and attend events, including member meetings. Those interested in supporting its work can join, pay dues, donate, or get involved in community activities. Through these programs and stories, the association encourages people to connect with Jefferson County’s past and appreciate the history present in their communities.
