## Description

The Center for Jewish Food Ethics (CJFE) is a nonprofit organization that helps Jewish communities align their food practices with Jewish values while supporting a more sustainable, just, and humane food system. Its work addresses the effects of industrial animal agriculture and offers practical strategies for communities seeking healthier, more resilient approaches to food. CJFE encourages making plant-based foods the default meal option and promotes care for people, animals, and the planet.

The organization supports synagogues, camps, Hillels, conferences, and other Jewish communities in developing ethical food policies. Its resources include a free, self-paced three-week Sustainable Dining Training e-course, which introduces sustainable communal food practices and Jewish food justice values. CJFE also shares educational articles and video content, including “Shalom Begins on Your Plate,” featuring Jewish clergy discussing principles such as avoiding waste, preventing animal suffering, protecting health, and observing kosher dietary laws. Through training, learning materials, and community guidance, CJFE helps people put Jewish ethical wisdom into practice in everyday dining and institutional food choices.
