## Description

JKS Takapuna is a Japan Karate Shoto (JKS) Federation-affiliated Shotokan karate dojo in Takapuna, New Zealand, operated by Sensei Andrew and Sensei Gilvan. It offers traditional karate training in a friendly, disciplined setting where individuals and families are welcomed and supported. Classes aim to develop fitness, confidence, focus, technique and personal growth, with students progressing at their own pace.

Programs include Little Tigers for children aged 5–8, general classes for students aged 8 and older, and senior training for students at 4th Kyu level and above. Training covers Kihon (basics), Kata and Kumite, with senior classes exploring advanced Shotokan and Koten kata and their practical applications. The dojo also supports sport karate, offering guidance for both kata and kumite competition while keeping individual development at the heart of training.

JKS Takapuna is affiliated with the federation’s headquarters in Tokyo and provides opportunities to attend courses with visiting JKS instructors and travel to Japan. New students can sign up for two free classes.
