About

Description

Johnson Publishing Company is a historic brand that has been at the forefront of showcasing the achievements and dreams of Black people. Founded in 1942 by John H. Johnson with a $500 loan, the company has made significant contributions to Black culture and representation.

It all began with the creation of the groundbreaking Negro Digest magazine, followed by the iconic Ebony Magazine in 1945. In 1951, Eunice W. Johnson launched the Ebony Fashion Fair, a traveling fashion show that highlighted emerging Black designers and couture pieces.

Recognizing a gap in the beauty market, Eunice started Fashion Fair Cosmetics in 1973, becoming a leader in Black beauty products. Over the years, Johnson Publishing Company faced challenges due to the evolving media landscape but has recently undergone a reinvention under CEO and Chairman Linda Johnson Rice. The company has transformed into a multimedia and production company, focusing on television, film, and other projects while preserving its historic legacy.

Linda, a prominent business leader, is also adapting one of the company's book properties into a compelling docu-series. Exciting new projects are currently in development.
