About
Description
Jo Ivester is a renowned author and advocate committed to promoting equality and understanding among diverse communities. Jo's early years were shaped by her experience of living in an all-black town in the Mississippi Delta, where she was one of the few white students. This upbringing immersed her in the civil rights movement and instilled in her a passion for advocating equal rights.
Jo's first book, The Outskirts of Hope, chronicles her family's time in Mississippi and has become a powerful tool for sparking discussions about racial relations. In her second book, Never a Girl, Always a Boy, inspired by her transgender son, Jo delves into the experiences of the transgender community, encouraging dialogue and building awareness. Through her writing and speaking engagements, Jo shares her personal stories to create empathy and understanding for those who are different in terms of race, religion, sexual orientation, and gender identification.
With a background in civil engineering and an MBA, Jo brings a unique perspective to her work, leveraging her experiences and education to bridge divides and promote positive change. Married for almost 40 years and with four children and five grandchildren, Jo resides in Austin, Texas, and actively serves on the boards of various organizations dedicated to equality and education
