## Description

The Jost Foundation, trading name of the Peter Jost Charitable Foundation, is a registered charity in England and Wales established in honour of Peter Jost CBE, the British mechanical engineer recognised as the founder of tribology. The Foundation supports work aligned with its charitable objectives through project grants, partnerships with trusted organisations, and smaller grants and donations to individuals pursuing compatible goals.

Its main areas of interest are advancing science and technology, particularly tribology through teaching and research, and supporting medical research focused on discovering and developing treatments for hearing loss. A key initiative is the Jost Studentship programme, which provides funding and experience for PhD students. Recent awards have supported researchers at universities including Brunel, Cardiff and Imperial College London. The Foundation has announced a further studentship for 2026 and aims to create more opportunities for research in creative and innovative settings. Its trustees may apply funds at their discretion under the broad terms of the Foundation’s Deed of Trust.
