## Description

KADCYLA® (ado-trastuzumab emtansine) is a prescription medicine for adults with HER2-positive breast cancer. It is used after surgery for early breast cancer when cancer remains in tissue removed during surgery following neoadjuvant treatment with a taxane and trastuzumab. It is also used for metastatic breast cancer that has spread to other parts of the body after prior treatment with trastuzumab and a taxane. Patients are selected for treatment using an FDA-authorized test.

KADCYLA combines trastuzumab, which binds to HER2 proteins on cancer cells, with the chemotherapy agent emtansine. It is administered by a healthcare provider as an intravenous infusion every three weeks. Treatment for early breast cancer typically consists of 14 doses, while treatment for metastatic disease generally continues until the cancer returns or side effects require stopping.

KADCYLA can cause serious side effects, including liver and heart problems, severe bleeding, lung problems, low platelet counts, nerve damage, and harm to an unborn baby. Regular monitoring is necessary, and patients should discuss side effects with their healthcare provider.
