## Description

Kapaemahu is a dynamic multimedia education and community engagement project that celebrates Hawaiian culture and promotes values of acceptance, respect, and inclusion. The initiative draws inspiration from the legendary Kapaemahu stones on Waikiki beach, which honor the mahu—unique individuals embodying both male and female spirits who brought the healing arts from Tahiti to Hawaii. Many visitors to these stones are unaware of their profound significance, and Kapaemahu aims to change that by sparking conversations around this essential aspect of Hawaii's heritage.

Through various engaging formats, Kapaemahu shares its story and history, including an animated short film, a bilingual children's picture book, a feature-length public television documentary, museum exhibitions, and an academic article. Additionally, an interactive online virtual hub connects the community with this vital narrative. Supported by a network of dedicated partners and benefactors, Kapaemahu’s mission is to ensure that this meaningful legacy of healing, inclusion, and aloha is recognized and cherished by all.
