## Description

Katla UNESCO Global Geopark is Iceland’s first geopark, covering 9% of the country in central South Iceland. The area presents a natural landscape shaped by geology and culture, with geosites that visitors can explore throughout the year. Katla Geopark helps people discover the region through information on places of interest, geology, cultural heritage and geohazards, including resources to prepare for changing Icelandic weather and conditions.

Visitors can find guidance on things to do, tours, accommodation and campsites, as well as a selection of local products and souvenirs. The geopark also offers self-drive itinerary resources to help travelers plan visits and learn about geology along the way. Its Science Driven Expeditions, including Citizen Science tours, invite participants to contribute to real-time research focused on glaciers and coastlines. These activities connect tourism with scientific exploration and sustainable development. Katla Geopark also shares research, news and events, and works with local communities, schools and partners to celebrate and understand the region’s natural and cultural heritage.
