The Caucasian State Natural Biosphere Reserve, named after H.G. Shaposhnikov, is the largest and oldest protected natural area in the North Caucasus, spanning over 300,000 hectares across the Krasnodar Krai, Republic of Adygea, and Karachay-Cherkess Republic of Russia. Established on May 12, 1924, the reserve was initially created to protect the Caucasian bison, its emblem. Today, it houses an impressive biodiversity, including more than 4,000 species of wildlife, such as 1,700 noble deer and 1,000 bison. Visitors can explore 16 eco-tourism routes covering roughly 450 kilometers, showcasing the stunning landscapes and rich flora and fauna. The reserve's commitment to conservation and research is supported by a skilled team of 230 employees dedicated to environmental education, scientific studies, and wildlife protection. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1999, the reserve invites eco-conscious tourists to respect nature while enjoying its unique offerings. For more information, the reserve provides various services, including accommodation and guided tours, enhancing visitors' experience in this breathtaking part of the world.
