Description

The Kansas City Country Club, established in 1896, is among the oldest country clubs in the western United States. With a deep-rooted passion for golf, the club was originally located at the historic Loose Park site in Missouri, which served as a significant battleground during the Civil War. For the first three decades, the club enjoyed a symbolic lease agreement of $1 per year, covering the land and property taxes.


In 1926, when the land was sold, the club relocated to its current location in Mission Hills, Kansas. Renowned golf course architect A. W.


Tillinghast played a role in designing the new course. Throughout its history, the Kansas City Country Club has been a host for numerous regional and national tournaments, including the inaugural Trans-Mississippi Amateur. Notably, the club has been home to the esteemed Tom Watson, a five-time British Open Champion and winner of eight major championships.


Polo was once a cherished tradition at the club, but its popularity waned in the 1940s. Today, the club boasts a modified golf course that incorporates the surrounding land and offers a fantastic practice facility.
