## Description

The Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) is a Kenyan State Corporation established in 1979 and operating under the Science, Technology and Innovation Act, 2013. It is the national body responsible for human health research in Kenya and has developed into a leading research centre in Africa and internationally. Guided by the motto “In Search of Better Health,” KEMRI works to improve health and quality of life through research, capacity building, innovation and service delivery.

Its research spans infectious and parasitic diseases, non-communicable diseases, biotechnology, public health and health systems, natural products and drug development, and sexual, reproductive, adolescent and child health. Specialist centres and programmes investigate areas such as clinical research, virology, respiratory diseases, traditional medicine, disease surveillance and vector control. KEMRI also supports scientific review and ethics, knowledge management, publications, training and research collaboration. Its services include forensic and DNA analysis, alongside commercial enterprises. The Institute shares research through conferences, news, policy briefs and the African Journal of Health Sciences, and works with partners to translate evidence and health innovations into practical impact.
