## Description

The Charles F. Kettering Foundation, established in 1927, is a nonpartisan, nonprofit operating foundation dedicated to conducting research for the betterment of society. Initially focused on scientific research, the foundation's mission has evolved over time to center around democracy and the role of citizens within it. Inspired by the forward-thinking philosophy of its founder, renowned American inventor Charles F. Kettering, the foundation places a strong emphasis on rigorous research and the belief that progress and a brighter future can be achieved through change and innovation. Throughout its history, the foundation has transitioned from being a grantmaking organization to an operating foundation and now concentrates all its research and programs on strengthening democracy. With a deep commitment to deliberative democracy, Kettering has earned a distinguished reputation in this field, recognizing that democratic societies thrive when citizens are actively engaged. Under the leadership of Sharon L. Davies, the foundation has expanded its focus to address the urgent challenges facing democracy today. By equipping citizens with information and engagement opportunities, Kettering aims to shape a collective future where democracy flourishes.
