## Description

Kerala Forest Research Institute (KFRI), an institution of the Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment, is a multidisciplinary centre of excellence focused on tropical forestry. Founded in 1975, KFRI conducts research that supports informed decision-making on forest conservation, sustainable resource use and the scientific management of natural resources. Its work spans tropical forests, bamboo, biodiversity, biotechnology and the environment, supported by a team of scientists and specialist facilities.

Alongside research, KFRI offers doctoral programmes and academic attachments, internships and dissertation opportunities for undergraduate and postgraduate students. Its services include consultancy, analysis and testing, and specialised training and extension courses in tropical forestry. The institute also supplies tissue-culture plantlets, including bananas, orchids, medicinal plants and rare species, and operates nurseries producing seedlings of more than 80 plant species. Through the Kerala Forest Seed Center, it collects, processes, grades, stores and supplies certified forest seeds.

KFRI shares its findings through research reports, papers, books, brochures and other publications, and promotes conservation through community engagement and educational initiatives.
