## Description

The Kilimanjaro Porters Assistance Project (KPAP) is a legally registered project and a Tanzanian Non-Governmental Organization that was established in 2003. KPAP's mission is to enhance the working conditions of the porters on Kilimanjaro by advocating for socially responsible Kilimanjaro climbs. The project achieves this by raising public awareness about the appropriate treatment of porters, assisting climbing companies in implementing procedures that ensure fair and ethical treatment of their porters, providing climbing gear free of charge, and offering educational classes to empower and motivate porters and mountain crew. Whether you're a climber, local tour operator, travel agent, charity group, porter, cook, or guide, KPAP encourages your assistance in advocating for and safeguarding the fair treatment of all porters. KPAP is neither a porter membership organization nor a tour operating business, and it does not collect fees from porters or climbing companies. The project is a registered initiative of the International Mountain Explorers Connection (IMEC) and relies on donations and grants to fund its programs.
