## Description

The Evangelische Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Kirchliche Zeitgeschichte (EvAKiZ) is a German Protestant organization dedicated to researching and communicating the history of the church, particularly the history of Protestantism in the 20th century. Founded by the Council of the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD) in 1955, it brings together a commission of twelve scholars and a research office based at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich’s Faculty of Protestant Theology. This partnership connects academic research with the church’s responsibility for reflecting on its own past.

EvAKiZ supports a historically informed culture of remembrance and helps make the background to current issues clearer. Its work promotes critical historical awareness and a pluralist, democratic Protestantism, while strengthening the presence of Protestant Christianity in historical scholarship and public discussion. The organization carries out research through funded projects, conferences, and collaborations with German and international institutions. It also publishes books and digital material, maintains a library, and shares research through online channels and podcasts.
