## Description

Knitted Knockers South Africa is a registered nonprofit company founded in 2014 by Ruth Archer and Dana Biddle, and partnered with CANSA South Africa. It provides free, handmade knitted or crocheted breast prostheses for women after mastectomy or lumpectomy surgery. The knockers are also available to women awaiting implants, those who have had implants removed, and those undergoing radiation treatment.

Designed as a comfortable alternative to silicone prostheses, Knitted Knockers are lightweight and can be worn in an ordinary bra without a special pocketed bra. They are made from soft, natural cotton and filled with breathable 100% merino wool. Their concave backs are designed to reduce contact with sensitive scars, while a buttonhole allows the stuffing to be removed for easier washing and drying. They come in sizes matched to different bra sizes and are offered in ten colours.

Volunteer knitters and crocheters make the prostheses using CANSA-approved kits. The organisation offers knitting and crochet kits in English or Afrikaans for purchase, and invites volunteers to join its making community.
