## Description

Kokoro is a traditional martial arts club in Paris’s 17th arrondissement, founded in 1992 and affiliated with the French Karate Federation. Its name means “heart” and “spirit” in Japanese, reflecting an approach that combines physical practice with personal development. The club welcomes adult beginners and experienced students, with instruction led by Sensei Kenji Nakata, an eighth-dan Shito-ryu karate practitioner. Classes take place on Monday and Friday evenings at Stade Léon Biancotto.

Kokoro teaches Shito-ryu, a traditional karate style founded by Kenwa Mabuni. Beginners develop fundamental techniques, while advanced students can study a broad range of kata, including those relevant to federation black-belt examinations. The curriculum also includes Yi Chuan, or Da Cheng Quan, an internal martial art focused on mind-body training, rootedness, body awareness, and responsive movement. Together, the practices develop technique, strength, discipline, and fluidity. Kokoro’s teaching is tailored to students’ ages, motivations, and physical condition, rather than focused on competition. The club supports official federation license registration and offers annual membership, including the federal license.
