## Description

Kolonieveldoven is the public-facing initiative of Stichting Historische Steenbakkerij Zorgvlied, founded in 2018 by a group of enthusiasts. The foundation promotes the traditional craft of firing bricks in a field kiln, a technique used from 1818 to build homes in the colonies established by the Maatschappij van Weldadigheid. Its work combines practical brickmaking with education and the preservation of local history.

The initiative conducts experiments and demonstrations in preparing clay and building and firing field kilns. Visitors can see the process at events, while school activities introduce young people to the materials and skills involved. The group also aims to inspire interest in hands-on careers in construction, structural and installation technology, linking these trades with historical craft knowledge.

After experimental firings in Zorgvlied and a successful public demonstration at Paard en Erfgoed in 2024, the initiative secured a site at De Proef in Frederiksoord in 2025. This location places its activities near the Museum De Proefkolonie and historic colony buildings.
