## Description

The Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) is an innovative framework that empowers nurses with a multistate license, enabling them to practice across all participating compact states and territories. This compact enhances access to healthcare while ensuring public safety at the state level. Through the NLC, nurses can provide in-person care and telenursing services, facilitating essential healthcare delivery without the need for multiple licenses. The compact also supports online nursing education and alleviates financial strains on employing organizations.

As of January 2, 2024, new rules will streamline the licensure process for nurses relocating between compact states, requiring them to apply for licensure in their new Primary State of Residence within 60 days. The NLC is governed by the Interstate Commission of Nurse Licensure Compact Administrators, which includes representatives from each participating jurisdiction. Additionally, the NLC promotes disaster response capability by allowing nurses to quickly cross state lines to deliver crucial services when needed.
