Kwendo was founded to address a significant gap in Africa’s gig economy: the need for affordable payroll solutions and financial inclusion for casual labourers. With the rise of the informal sector, Kwendo recognised that gig businesses often face high payroll costs and administrative hurdles, while workers lack access to essential financial services due to the absence of traditional employment records.

Kwendo’s journey began with a focus on operational efficiency for gig-based businesses. By developing Kwendo Operate, Kwendo Pay, and Kwendo FI, it introduced an integrated suite of tools designed to simplify contract management, automate payroll, and connect gig workers with curated financial products. Kwendo FI helps gig workers establish a portable work score, which serves as a financial profile and credit base, opening doors to savings, insurance, and credit options previously out of reach.
