As stewards and guardians of the lands, spirits, waters, and all living things, Kwikwetlem remains dedicated to upholding the teachings of their ancestors and guiding future generations. Drawing from a rich culture and history rooted in ancient Coast Salish laws and protocols, the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm people have a strong connection to their territory.

They proudly govern their land in accordance with their customary laws, responsibly using and caring for their lands, waters, and all that is above and below. Kwikwetlem's name, meaning Red Fish Up the River, reflects their deep connection to the Coquitlam River and Coquitlam Lake, once teeming with sockeye salmon. With a population of 123 members, Kwikwetlem actively engages with their community in decision-making processes related to governance, planning, and programs.
