## Description

The Kentucky Climate Center (KCC) is the Commonwealth’s official climate office, based at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green. Its expert team of faculty, staff, and students collects, assesses, and shares weather and climate information to help Kentucky communities understand conditions and prepare for high-impact events. The center’s work supports state and local governments, private industry, academia, and the public, and is carried out through research, education, outreach, and collaboration with government agencies, universities, businesses, and nonprofit organizations.

KCC is home to the Kentucky Mesonet and provides climate information and data access through its data request service. Its areas of focus include severe weather, drought, agriculture, emergency management, hydrology, public health, transportation, and wildfire. Through applied climatology and its partnerships, the center works to reduce the effects of weather and climate hazards and strengthen the state’s economy and infrastructure. KCC also invites people to share weather stories, photographs, and historical experiences, recognizing that personal accounts help enrich the record of Kentucky’s climate. The center describes its mission as “Measuring Weather.
