## Description

LACSA, the Lactation Consultant Association of Southern and Africa, is a professional organization connecting and empowering qualified lactation consultants and trained breastfeeding supporters across Africa. Lactation consultants are healthcare-team members with specialist breastfeeding knowledge, providing skilled assistance to mothers and guidance relied on by families and other health professionals. LACSA supports its members through regular general meetings, case discussions, topic discussions, and peer exchange in a members-only WhatsApp group, helping them stay informed about local breastfeeding issues. The association also offers networking, mentorship, training opportunities, and continuing education, including recognition points. It develops breastfeeding-related handouts suited to the African context and promotes lactation support, including recognition of lactation consultants as a distinct profession. LACSA works to increase the visibility of trained breastfeeding supporters and recognition by medical aid companies. Its online directory helps families find professional lactation care, with consultant listings across South African provinces and countries including Kenya, Namibia, Nigeria, Uganda, and Zimbabwe. The association also hosts conferences, with events listed for 2025 and 2026.
