## Description

Lacuna Fund is the world's first collaborative effort dedicated to providing data scientists, researchers, and social entrepreneurs in low- and middle-income contexts globally with the necessary resources to create labeled datasets that address pressing issues in their communities. In many low- and middle-income countries, the lack of unbiased and labeled data hinders the potential benefits of machine learning. Lacuna Fund aims to bridge this gap by filling data voids in various domains, including language, agriculture, and health. By supporting the creation, expansion, and maintenance of labeled datasets, Lacuna Fund empowers local communities to produce data that reflects their needs and concerns. These datasets will be readily accessible and adherent to the highest ethical and privacy standards. With the goal of promoting systemic change, Lacuna Fund envisions galvanizing a deeper understanding of effective and equitable dataset funding, ultimately enabling underserved populations to harness the advancements offered by artificial intelligence.
