## Description

Die Länderbahn is a private German rail operator with more than 130 years of history and headquarters in Viechtach. It provides regional passenger transport in Germany and the Czech Republic through brands including alex, trilex, oberpfalzbahn, vogtlandbahn and waldbahn. Its services connect communities across Bavaria, Thuringia, Saxony and neighbouring regions, with cross-border routes to the Czech Republic and Poland. The company operates a fleet of around 210 vehicles, including diesel and electric locomotives, passenger coaches and modern trains. It also maintains its own rail infrastructure in the Bavarian Forest and runs workshops under the regentalwerke name in Neumark, Schwandorf, Viechtach and Zwiesel. From December 2026, the Länderbahn is set to operate services on the S-Bahn Mitteldeutschland network, adding routes between Halle, Leipzig and the Vogtland. The company reports about 1,100 employees, with plans to grow as the new network begins. Its work also includes recruiting and training railway staff, alongside operating and maintaining passenger rail services.
