About
Description
The Lake Jackson Historical Association (LJHA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and sharing the history and culture of Lake Jackson, Texas. As the only group exclusively focused on the area's history, we operate three key sites: the Lake Jackson Historical Museum, the Alden B. Dow Office Museum, and the Jackson Plantation Historic Site.
At the Alden B. Dow Office Museum, visitors can explore the fully restored 1943 office where Dow designed Lake Jackson's iconic buildings and streets. The museum offers a glimpse into the city's early years, housing the post office, city hall, barbershop, and more.
The Lake Jackson Historical Museum provides a comprehensive look at the region's unique history, from native Karankawa hunters to wartime industry. Visitors can engage with lifelike robots, discover the origins of the city's unusual street names, and learn about Lake Jackson's connection to legendary performer Selena. The Jackson Plantation Historic Site is a State Archeological Landmark that offers valuable insights into the plantation's role in the sugar industry.
Built and operated by enslaved labor, the site now preserves the remains of 12 structures on approximately four acres of land. Join the Lake Jackson Association to be a part of preserving history and supporting the community. Visit our sites, engage with our exhibits, and learn about the captivating heritage of Lake Jackson, Texas
