Description
Lakeshore Food Club (LF4K) is a brand dedicated to tackling food insecurity and providing nutritious meals for children in Mason County. With the alarming statistic that 1 in 6 children in the area lack access to enough food, LF4K aims to make a difference by ensuring these children have a full belly, enabling them to focus and learn effectively, and securing a brighter future for them. LF4K sources its food from Feeding America, local stores, and generous donations from local farmers, individuals, businesses, and groups.
Each food bag provided by LF4K contains items similar to the meals a child would receive at school, including 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches, 2 snacks, two servings of fruit, 2 servings of vegetables, and older students receive two additional dinner entrees. These bags consist of non-perishable, nutritious food such as fruit cups, cereals, pastas, peanut butter, vegetables, snacks, and easily prepared items. To sign up for LF4K, LASD students can use an icon on their iPads or contact a school counselor.
The program is run by Lakeshore Food Club staff, LASD school counselors, LASD food service director and staff, Community Schools Coordinator, transportation staff, and the co-founders of LF4K. Each week during the school year, dedicated volunteers, including students and staff from the Trailblazers classroom, work together with counselors and coordinators to pack the food bags. This initiative not only supports the community but also helps students gain valuable employability skills.
For more information about LF4K and how to get involved, you can contact Executive Director O'Nealya Gronstal or Operations Manager Morgan McDonald. Lakeshore Food Club is located at 920 E. Tinkham Ave Ludington, MI, and operates during specific hours throughout the week, including Saturday morning.
