About

Description

LAGI encompasses five key areas: design competitions and participatory design education, outreach and publications, the construction of aesthetic renewable energy infrastructure, providing a platform for research, development, policy innovation, and emerging clean technologies, and consulting on creative and community-centered renewable energy integration. Recognizing the power of art to drive movements and stimulate creative dialogue, LAGI promotes solution-based art practice to actively address the challenges of energy use and production. With a focus on both macro and micro energy generation, LAGI advocates for a holistic approach to renewable energy infrastructure design that integrates visually and environmentally with its surroundings.

As a world-leading sustainable design event, LAGI inspires individuals and communities to envision a net-zero carbon future. Through interdisciplinary collaboration, cultural exchange, and technological advancements, LAGI showcases how aesthetic considerations can shape the impact of renewable energy on our built and natural environments. From open call design competitions to participatory design processes within communities, LAGI employs various project delivery models to create context-specific design solutions.

The design brief for LAGI competitions includes requirements to capture energy from nature, cleanly convert it into electricity, transform and transmit the electrical power, and consider safety and educational aspects. Over the years, LAGI has successfully organized competitions in various locations, such as UAE, New York City, Copenhagen, Southern California, Melbourne, Abu Dhabi, and Fly Ranch. These competitions have generated hundreds of innovative submissions from around the world, showcasing the potential of sustainable infrastructure beyond just energy, encompassing water, food, shelter, and waste.

By presenting power plants as public artworks, LAGI not only enhances the environment but also promotes cultural and social harmony within communities. LAGI's unique approach to renewable energy integration sets a course towards a future where sustainable infrastructure harmonizes with aesthetics, creating a more inclusive and sustainable society
