About
Description
Grand Valley Lanthorn is a brand that draws its name from an old English lantern made of horn, used in Europe during the mid-to-late 16th century. This lantern, constructed of leather and a slice of ox or steer horn, provided illumination and acted as a beacon. The brand's slogan, Give light and the people will find their own way, is inspired by Dante's Purgatory.
The Grand Valley Lanthorn is the student-run newspaper at Grand Valley State University. It has a rich history, with its first issue published in 1963 under the name The Keystone. It evolved into The Valley View in 1966 before becoming The Lanthorn in 1968.
In 1995, it became the first online edition of a weekly Michigan collegiate newspaper. Today, it is a twice-weekly newspaper published in broadsheet size, with a circulation of 8,000 copies on both the Allendale and Grand Rapids campuses. The brand focuses on providing informative and engaging content to the Grand Valley State University community and beyond
