## Description

Laurel Caverns is a privately operated geological attraction in Fayette County, Pennsylvania, about 50 miles south of Pittsburgh. Set beneath a 435-acre geological preserve on Chestnut Ridge, it is home to Pennsylvania’s largest cave, with more than four miles of passages. The extensive calcareous sandstone cave is known for its steep terrain and a steady temperature of 52 degrees. Laurel Caverns offers five visitor experiences: the Maze Tour, Full Lighted Tour, Tour and Crawl Program, Introduction to Caving Program, and Deep Depths Caving Program. It also provides educational programming for schools, scouts, camps, and other organized groups, with advance arrangements available for groups of 15 or more. Additional attractions include a family lookout terrace, gemstone panning, and a gift shop offering souvenirs and group packages. The cave is closed during the winter bat-hibernation season, supporting the preservation of a major natural bat hibernaculum and the surrounding land. Operating income comes from admissions, programs, and shop sales; the site states that it receives no public funding.
