With a membership of nearly 1300 members, LCWR represents approximately 67 percent of the approximately 35,000 women religious in the country. The conference has a rich history, with its origins rooted in the Conference of Major Superiors of Women, founded in 1956 at the request of the Vatican's Congregation for Religious.
